Accommodation

Accommodation plays an important part in creating a solid foundation for your academic success and personal growth.

You may want to try staying with an Australian family for a complete cultural experience. Or perhaps, you’d like to live in a shared house with friends. If you want some privacy and quiet, you might prefer your own studio apartment.  If you require assistance with finding accommodation, one of our College Service Advisors can help connect you with a variety of our approved student accommodation options including homestay through the AHN network, or dedicated student accommodation at either Scape@Univeristy of Adelaide or Yugo Adelaide City so you can work out what will best suit your needs and budget.

Students who are over 18 years of age have a wider range of student accommodation options and can also choose to explore private rental options.

Are you under the age of 18?

Our friendly staff look after all students at the College, but we do take particular care of students who are under the age of 18. Before you arrive, we will help you to arrange suitable accommodation, either with a local homestay family, or an apartment at our approved student residences.

We’ll connect you with our approved airport pick-up service who will meet at the airport upon arrival and transfer you to your new home. Under 18 students for whom the College is their legal guardian will have a Student Advocate appointed to support them and oversee their welfare.  This service is provided by the International Student Alliance (ISA) as part of our independent welfare monitoring programme. The ISA Student Advocates are professional, multilingual advocates who will ensure our younger students are properly cared for the absence of their parents and provide parents with regular updates on their child in their native language, wherever possible. Students will meet with their Student Advocate regularly either in-person or via phone/online meetings. They will check that students are managing well in their new environment regarding their accommodation, finances, friendships, health, studies and contacting their family on a regular basis.

For any student under 18 queries, email welfare@adelaide.edu.au.

For accommodation fees, please visit the website of your preferred option, links are provided below.

And remember, we’re here to help! Please get in touch one of our College Service Advisors if you have any queries. You can email collegeservices@adelaide.edu.au or call +61 8 8313 3430.

Homestay

If you want to get to know how Australians live, and you like the idea of living with a local family, then this is a fantastic option for you! While you’re staying with your homestay family in their home, they will take care of you and make you feel comfortable. It’s also a great way to practise your English language skills outside the classroom.  Most homestays are located within 45mins maximum from the College and on a direct bus, train or tram line.

The College uses the Australian Homestay Network (AHN) to manage all homestay placements.  Information on how to apply and fees are available on their webpage.

If you are aged 18 and over, you are required to stay with your homestay family for a minimum of four weeks. For under 18’s you are required to stay in your homestay for a minimum of six months or until you are 18 years old, whichever is the earlier date. All students requesting homestay are required to pay an accommodation placement fee.

If you want to stay closer to the city, or would like to live in a ‘community of students’ then one of our approved Under 18 Student Accommodation providers might be a better choice for you.  The two options for Under 18s are Scape@Univeristy of Adelaide or Yugo Adelaide City follow the link to see the types of accommodation on offer and the current fees, so you can work out what will best suit your needs and budget.

Students who are over 18 years of age have a wider range of student accommodation options. The link will take you to Study Adelaide’s approved list of accommodation providers with options in and around the Adelaide CBD.
