Moving to a new country is a big deal and that’s why we are here to help! You might want to live with an Australian homestay family, for a full cultural experience. Or perhaps, you will want to live in a share with friends. You may prefer some privacy and a quiet space to study in your own studio apartment. Whatever you choose, we can help you find a home that suits your particular needs. The College provides accommodation services to students who require assistance with organising their accommodation in Australia.

Accommodation in Adelaide

We are here to guide and support you with your choices, as there are many options for housing in Adelaide available to you. The team at the College are here to help you work out which accommodation will suit your needs and budget best. Here is a selection of accommodation you may like to consider:

For our Under 18 students we have some set options available, which are suited to your individual needs. You can choose from the following accommodation options:

  • Homestay
  • Urbanest*
  • Living with a relative or family friend will need to be approved as a homestay provider with proof of age, residency, and a current Working with Children Check

All accommodation for students under the age of 18 will be arranged and overseen by the College Accommodation Manager and Under 18 Welfare Coordinator. To ensure you settle into your new home easily, we organise this before you arrive in Australia.

Parents will also be happy to know that all students under 18 are assigned a welfare officer. Your personal officer will meet with you every two weeks, to make sure you’re adjusting to your new life in Australia. For any under 18 student queries email welfare@adelaide.edu.au.

Homestay

If you want to get to know how Australians live, and you like the idea of living with a local family, then this is a fantastic option for you! While you’re staying with your homestay family in their home, they will take care of you and make you feel comfortable. It’s also a great way to practise your English language skills outside the classroom.

The College does not enter into a contract with either the student or the homestay family but simply acts as the facilitator for the homestay placement. We take a lot of care when matching homestay families and students, however sometimes things don’t work out as expected. Please note that we are here to help you if you find yourself in this situation. Just get in touch with us.

If you are aged 18 and over, you are required to stay with your homestay family for a minimum of four weeks, unless there are extenuating circumstances and you need change your arrangement. For under 18’s you are required to stay in your homestay for a minimum of six months or until you are 18 years old, whichever is the earlier date. All students requesting homestay are required to pay an accommodation placement fee.

Urbanest

Urbanest at the University of Adelaide is the University of Adelaide College’s preferred student accommodation provider. Located across the road from the University’s main campus and a short walk down Rundle Mall to the University of Adelaide College, students will benefit from the community environment and study spaces provided, shared with undergraduate and postgraduate students of the University. Electricity, water, internet and contents insurance are included in your weekly rent. With a range of room types available the property is safe and secure, with 24/7 dedicated onsite team and swipe card access for all rooms. Plus, you get to enjoy a whole lot of fantastic facilities, including a video games rooms, amazing rooftop with BBQs, cinema and gym! All students requesting Urbanest are required to pay an accommodation placement fee.

University Village

If you’re looking for other studio or shared apartment options, there are more student residence options available. These residences have affordable options and common areas for socialising. The Village is a purpose-built student community, located in the Adelaide central business district, also near China Town and Central Market, it is a 25-minute brisk walk or a short bus trip to our College. UniLodge City Gardens

UniLodge City Gardens is one of Adelaide’s newest student accommodations, with excellent facilities and a great central location. Enjoy studying and hanging out with your friends, in various shared facilities such as gym, laundry rooms, communal kitchen and dining area and a state-of-the-art theatrette. Close to cafes restaurants, shopping entertainment and Adelaide Central markets. UniLodge City Gardens is approximately 15-minutes’ walk from the College or short bus trip!

Atira Apartments

Atira Shaped by Scape Waymouth Street is located in the heart of Adelaide, only a short bus trip to the CBD or a brisk 15-minute walk. Enjoy studying and hanging out with your friends, in various shared facilities such as gym, laundry rooms, communal kitchen and dining area Close to public transport, cafes and shopping centres mean you have easy access to all your day to day requirements and all the other exciting elements Adelaide has to offer.
